Selling Kids Outgrown Items In Fall

Hello Friend,

How are you doing with your outgrown kids items? Well, this year it seems I am busier than usual even though we are down to only 6 people living here! But I do need to go through the kids' outgrown items soon.

Yeah, it's a big, tough job. I tell the kids we are getting rid of 10%. (or if it's been a while, or if we are moving - it might be 30%) I tell them what types of things need to be decreased. It seems like it's always stuffed animals. Those things somehow multiply in my house.

My big kids are pretty good about handling things themselves, but my youngest two need help. I will have my teen daughter go first as an example to the younger ones. She will line all her stuffed animals on the living room floor in lines of 10. We count and I say, "okay, you have 50, so five need to go." She makes some tough decisions and gives up 5. Then puts the rest back in her room where they belong.

The tough part is that it takes time and can be sad for the child. Now if I see that a child doesn't have many stuffed animals, I say, "you're fine" and we don't bother. But that child may have 150 matchbox cars that we need to make decisions on.

If you don't like to sell or throw away toys, but need to tame them, try this method that has worked for me as well.

We already went through all the kids' clothing and used our seasonal clothing tracker mentioned in this previous newsletter, and I now have their outgrown clothing in a few totes in the garage for the next sale.

In the Fall, it can be tough to figure out how to sell kids' items since the big rummage saling season is over.

We sell as many items as we possibly can at a large kids' consignment sale. If we are buying abandoned storage units, we add those "clean and in great shape items" to the bunch. We have not bought an abandoned unit this year. Read the following article to learn more about the large consignment sale we like to use (they are all over the United States and there may be one near you) ...

I hope you get lots of money for your items so you can save it for more clothing, kids' gifts or a family vacation.

Hello Friend, Have you ever thought about buying out a whole rummage sale or a large lot an an auction, or an entire garage full of stuff? There is a television show called Storage Wars and in that show, they buy abandoned storage units that the owners were not able to pay for. My family has done this as a side business. The history on one unit we bought was that a woman died in a nursing home and did not have family alive or ever marry. She was a crafter and had a moving company pack up her...

Hello Friend, It's time for me to share my recent decluttering "win". I finally had enough money for the perfect container to motivate me! The Problem After seven years of living here (I always do "severe" decluttering before a house move as I tell myself, "less to move, less to move.") and keeping items out of some abandoned storage units (see post below), plus my own "sale finds" - I had somehow acquired twenty 18 gallon storage totes worth of fabric and yarn! Even if my Etsy shop was 4...
