Frugal Tips To Try Now

Hello Friend,

If you are looking at your income for the next few months and wondering how ends are going to meet this fall, you are not alone. The price of many items are going up due to lack of availability with items not coming in to the US.

Frugal Tips To Try Now

We had a tough time in 2008, which led me to go to the library and check out many books on living frugally and to trying some different things out of necessity. What I learned during that time may be able to help us all right now.

  • Drop one activity for the next season. Look at how much it costs to enroll in the activity itself, plus uniforms, equipment, shoes, gas to drive to events, possible fast food due to busy-ness or being away, tickets to get in to away events, you may save on babysitting of your younger children or pets, not to mention less family time and feeling over-extended.
  • Sell one of your vehicles. Look closely at your situation. Are you a stay at home mom who really only needs the vehicle a few days a week for appointments or activities. Wouldn't it save you a lot of money to just have one vehicle and drop your husband off and pick him up on those few busy days? We only had one vehicle between my husband and I from 2022 to 2025 and saved over $3,000 in car insurance alone. I know I didn't spend that much in extra gas driving my husband to work and back during that time, no way! It's totally worth it!
  • Batch cook and freeze. If there is no way to stop the busy-ness in your life, cut down on convenience or fast food. Pick one baking and freezing day per week. Use my master mix to make biscuits, waffles, muffins, cookies or crustless quiche and freeze until needed. You could also make pb & j sandwiches and freeze them. It is also helpful to freeze crockpot meals to save in the freezer for busy days.
  • Shop at a big group consignment sales for Kids Clothing. I have sold and purchased at the JBF sales before. It's like 100 - 200 moms all putting their stuff out for sale at the same time in a very organized fashion with barcodes. It's a great deal any day that you go, but I love to see what they have left on the last day because most items are 50% off. Sometimes, I sell auction resale items and our outgrown items at these events with JBF, so if you are willing to drive, you should find a sale - they are all over the United States.
  • Use a local food pantry. Even if you don't think you qualify. You can check online to see what is available close to you. If you are unsure, contact your local county extension office. They may be offering free cooking or gardening classes, know where you can get free food items or give you a list of where to go.
  • Look for a Little Free Pantry near you. The Little Free Pantry near us also has garden produce and herbs. It's basically like the Little Free Library where you can take some food that you need and when you have extra (or if your garden over-produces), you can put some in.

seasonal clothing tracker printable

Hello Friend, As a mom of 8 kids, I go through the kids clothing before I intentionally go to rummage sales looking for clothes. This is how I do it. A few days to a week before rummaging, I hand each older kid a printed out Seasonal Clothing Tracker. They use a pencil to write how many they have of each Type of clothing or accessories they Have and write how many they have of each in the correct sections. I go through the younger kids' clothing at the same time as the older kids are going...
